Core Values
To the congregation of saints at Valley Victory Church these core values are foundational
to who we are. We are intentional about the core. We don’t want to
violate them. We weave them into our life and ministry. We need to see
evidence of the core values lived out in our ministries.
Valley Victory Church has ten core values – ten statements that
describe what we care about most. In other words, these ten values communicate
the essential activity of VVC.
Practically…
- If you’re
a staff member, these ten values should
be the benchmark of the effectiveness
of your ministry
- If you’re
a ministry partner, these ten values
should be your motivation as you fulfill
your calling to serve here at Valley Victory
- If you’re
a visitor or seeker, these ten values
should be quickly evident to you when
you visit.
We value people
All people matter to God, therefore they matter to us.
Luke 15:1-32
We value truth
The Bible is the ultimate truth and is taught in relevant and life changing
ways.
2 Timothy 3:16
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in righteousness,
We value relevance
We will be culturally relevant while remaining doctrinally pure.
1 Corinthians 9:20-22
20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law
I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so
as to win those under the law. 21 To those not having the law I became like
one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's
law), so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I became weak,
to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible
means I might save some.
We value spiritual growth
Full devotion to Christ is normal for every believer.
John 15:1-8
1“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every
branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he
prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because
of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you.
No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can
you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I
in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone
does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers;
such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain
in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given
you. 8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves
to be my disciples.
We value community
Life change happens best in community.
Acts 2:42-47
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship,
to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and
many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44 All the believers
were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and
goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet
together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together
with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all
the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
We value worship
We provide personal and relevant worship experiences.
Isaiah 29:13
13 The Lord says:“These people come near to me with their mouth and honor
me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is
made up only of rules taught by men.”
John 4:23-24
23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship
the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father
seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”
We value prayer
Prayer is our connection to God.
1 Thessalonians 5:17
17 pray continually;
Philippians 4:6-7
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which
transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus.
We value ministry
Every member must be equipped for and involved in ministry.
1 Corinthians 12:27
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
Ephesians 4:11-13
11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be
evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God's people
for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we
all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become
mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
We value excellence
We bring honor to God by doing all things with excellence.
Colossians 3:23
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord,
not for men,
We value unity
In essentials unity, in matters of opinion liberty, but in all things love.
Ephesians 4:3
3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
Putting It into Practice
Consider the following ways you can ensure you are living out our core values:
Frequently ask yourself how you are living out each of the ten core values
in your personal life, before applying them to your ministry. As Christ followers,
our behavior in our personal lives and our ministries should be congruent.
Focus on one value each week, making it a primary focus in your prayer life,
and journal about what God teaches you.
Ask an accountability partner to give you
honest feedback regarding the core values
they see you displaying (or not displaying)
in your life and ministry.
List those core values that God reveals are your weaknesses and pray for the
Holy Spirit’s nudging to enable you to hear His voice and grow in those
areas.
Determine where you are in living out the core values, and plan ways to take
the next step in every area.
Post the core values in your office, in
a place of importance and commit to reading
through them weekly.
Set personal goals for growth and keep track
of your progress. Share your changes with
a spiritually mature believer.
I want to encourage you to dig into the
scriptures behind each of these values. Ask
God for wisdom to understand and a willing
heart to ensure that you are consistently
living out each one of these in your life.
Take some time today or this week to read
and study each of the scriptures behind each
value. |
